The Melrose girls basketball team had a solid effort Tuesday night at the Melrose gym. Melrose beat BBE by 10, 61-51. Both teams are 11-7 on the season.
Trailing by one at half, the Melrose girls came out running in the second half and at one time led by 13. Justine Reverman knocked down a couple of three point shots and finished with 12 points. Emily Goerdt topped the Melrose scoring with 20, Gabi Sawyer had 16, Emily Tschida 7, Jordan Thompson 4 and Maci Blommel 2.
The Melrose girls go to Minnewaska Thursday and then to Osakis on Friday.
Sauk Centre took an 8 point half time lead and turned into a 33 point win at Paynesville. The Sauk Centre girls won 71-38 to up their record to 18-1 overall. Three point shots were falling like the snow Tuesday night for Madi Greenwaldt. She made 7 three pointers to lead Sauk Centre in scoring with 23 points. Madison Moritz had 13, Kelsey Peschel 12 and Mauren Theisen 10. Sauk Centre goes to Morris Thursday and then home Friday with Staples/Motley and here on MIDMNSPORTS.
Boys basketball:
LP/GE has lost two in a row to put their record at 15-3 overall. In double overtime Browerville beat LP/GE for the second time this season, 81-74 in 2OT.
